Oh, indeed, Amy, I would not dare despise you for those little private thoughts. Especially since I have them myself from time to time. ;)

I enjoyed the reference, too. You're right, if Mrs Bennet had written the announcement for Lydia, who knows what would have gotten in? "The bride, formerly Miss Lydia Bennett of Longbourn estate in Hartfordshire, has 4 other sisters who need husbands now, now, now!!! before that odious Mr. Collins throws them and their poor mother out into the hedgerows"

But now I can see why JA stopped her novels at the proposal scene. No doubt she didn't have the stomach to relate some of her heroines' wedding announcements. Can you imagine Lizzy's and Darcy's? If I were a friend of Darcy's who didn't know anything about Lizzy, I would have said Darcy could have done a lot better. Funny how JA makes us face even our own prejudices.
