] ] I realize that I'm courting death posting this here, but I've noticed quite a bit of drooling both here and on VirtView about Greg Wise. Maybe it's just me, but he does zilch for me. Oh, he's asthetically pleasing, he's even my "type", being tall and dark, but he doesn't seem to have that certain something. In the words of Gertrude Stein, "there's just no there there".

] ] Maybe I'm doing him a disservice, and I certainly don't know the man personally. I'd like to think that anyone admired/loved by Emma Thompson would be special, but...

] ] And it's not just because I connect him with Willoughby. I saw The Buccaneers before I saw S&S.

] He definitely doesn't make my heart beat faster. For one thing, he's got a too-smooth Ken-doll quality that doesn't appeal to me...and for another, he's got a certain brand of self-assured handsomeness that I associate very strongly with men who are full of themselves. My instant reaction is not to react to them, because they're so used to it and expect it. Instead I find myself giving them sardonic, raised-eyebrow, yes-we-both-know-you're-handsome looks. Mind you, I think it makes him perfect for the part. He's got Mr. Too Good to Be True written in every overperfect line of his face.

] You know who else gives me the same reaction? Rob Lowe.

] "Now despise me if you dare!"

Yes! That's definitely a big part of it. And, also, I'm sure you've noticed how non-traditionally beautiful people seem beautiful because of a certain inner something; for lack of a better word, let's say "intelligence". I think it's what makes people like Isabella Rosselini so breathtaking. At least for me, if this inner "intelligence" is missing, so is my attraction. I can find people like GW good-looking from a detached perspective, but I don't find them personally sexy or attractive.
