I can agree wit you that people are demanding more realism. Here's a story from my mother: When she last worked as a childrens' librarian about ten years ago she tried to oragnise a display and reading group based on fairy tales and other fantasies. Boy what trouble! Christian groups yelled because she included goblins, feminist yelled because she include Sleeping Beauty (I don't know why as she included Briar Rose, arelated tale with a more active heroine as well) and many parent didn't like it simply because fantasy was the dominent element. Many of them said tehy want ed to raise their children to be 'realists' and these kind of works weren't 'relevant' to their children's live. Sad.
