] ] I'm a relative newcomer to the board, so pardon me if this subject has been beaten to death before and I just missed it.

] ] In the novel, I was very interested how Austen gave Willoughby some chance to redeem himself (or at least explain himself) and show the depth of his feeling for Marianne by appearing out of nowhere while she was ill.

I was disappointed she didn't put it in and am also curious why.



It would be difficult enough to prove that Marianne/Brandon fell so much in love- with the chapter, the whole "ending" would hang like a dangling thread!

i think they needed an all is well end.
