] Since listening to SS on tapw I've come to realise that a major charactistic of Mr John Dashwood is his ability to fool himself into thinking anything he wants. First he fools himself into believing his father doesn't mean that he shoudl give his sisters money (albeit with the help of his wife), later he fools himself into thinking himself poor and that Col Brandon is interested in Elinor. He must not ever see anything beyond that which didrectly effects him.

] I can't help it though, I should despise him but the way he wriggles his logic around to suit himself cracks me up!
Listening I was always thinking: What is he going to come up with this time? His mid is so slippery at times he lands on the correct deceision and manges to slip right by it again. What a fool! What a twerp! but hysterically so.
