This business of Queen Mab: An Early Warning Signal?

Willoughby's gift to Marianne of Queen Mab is a clear
breach of propriety, according to Regency custom. It is
also a warning, which Marianne ignores, about possible defects in Willoughby's character. Yet, Elinor seems only concerned at least on the surface with the question of
expense. Willoughby and Elinor had been in the habit of regular meetings, but they were not formally engaged. Does this show perhaps a lack of concern for propriety on the part of Elinor also?
