Willoughby was not a Wickham! Just Cad and scum in a very superficial sense, used to describe his choice.

But, his choice was not simple. In an age where professional capacity was not mobile and class played a big role, his choice was limited.

He did have a very tough moral choice and did choose reason over sentiment. I believe he loved Marianne and did not anticipate his future dilemma.

His choice was a stable/secure financial future or love- he chose 'sense' over 'sensibility'. I know that a lot of people will have made a similar choice.

I am just sad that it is Marianne who has to deal with the heartache(more) and a loss of faith.

In some respects W's case too is tragic!
