Will in mid-life crisis

] Do you really think that Mr. Shallow would have remained devoted to her for the rest of his life? Forget it. He's so good at placing himself first over anyone else, even when he "loves" them, I'm sure he'd have been grabbing at the chambermaids after a while. Especially when he hit his midlife crisis and his fabulous looks started to go, and his wife wasn't the young rose she had been. Oh, he'd tell himself it wouldn't hurt her because she'd never find out... I can also see him staying out late with his friends, coming home drunk, etc.


LOL! yes indeed! and his tendencies towards overspending would have been heightened as he grew to need compensation (think -- brand new convertible at 45 today)
