In response to Marianne, grows but also dies????, written by Rita on October 19, 1997 at 23:05:59

] but, doesn't an essential part of her die???????????????????

Totally. She loses her youthful gaiety and idealism and becomes resigned to conventions. For me, Marianne`s story is a tragedy---something that I can`t really say about Elinor`s, though I truly admire her character. Jane Austen certainly punished Marianne in the end (too bad...I think).
