] Marianne's idealism is heartbreaking. At least, I always find it heartbreaking when the illusions of good-hearted people are spoiled.

I find Marianne the most heartbreaking of Austen`s heroines. She´s so young, so passionate (and so wrong most of the times)! I can`t help comparing her to Mansfield Park´s Fanny Price, who is equally young and inexperienced and yet so utterly uninteresting and afraid of life. I think Marianne is truly the youngest at heart of the two.
