] I always found the first few paragraphs in the first chapter of S&S a bit confusing: the first time I read it, my head became dizzy while attempting to figure out this inheritance puzzle.

Thanks for the info, H.C....your page was the first thing I found about Jane Austen, and I have referred to it, but I guess I missed the chart you mention. That should be helpful for me----I am more of a visual learner, anyway.
