Teacup scene

Well, itīs been a while since I last saw the movie, but I remember feeling very moved with the scene when both Marianne and her mother go up to their rooms, crying (I don`t remember why right now) and Elinor is left on the stairs with a teacup in her hands. She just sits there, alone, and drinks it.
I found it most wonderful!...
PS: I actually love Elinor as a character and ET in the role, so all Elinor scenes are, IMO, very good.
