] ] Which one loved her most? Which one has the better chance of a happy marriage, not just a happy wedding?
I truly believe Brandon loved her most, although I also think Willoughby was in love with her.
] I must confess that these postings were all I had hoped for. I myself view Marianne as a more intelligent(with a better heart) version of Lydia.
Well, I canīt quite agree. Lydia is a total airhead, Marianne is an incredibly romantic and passionate being. She reminds me of Isabel Archer in The Portrait of a Lady. Very intelligent women, with great ideals and an unfortunate ability to be blinded by life itself.
] I think Brandon MAY have stood some chance of being content with her, but I wonder whether he was truly happy- in every sense of the word..........................................
I think Brandon was indeed happy in every sense of the word, even though the fact that he may see Marianne as a substitute for his other love has always made me think that all is not right with that marriage. Besides I think Marianne didn`t love him. She cared for him, but there was no passion. Without at least a bit of passion, is it love?
IMHO, no.
