Margaret / JA and children

Last week I went out and bought ET's S&S on video - so I've watched it plenty of times in the last few days!

One thing that has struck me is the character of Margaret. Jane Austen doesn't really seem to characterise children favourably - there usually aren't very many of them, and they don't really have personalities, like the Gardiner children in P&P. But Margaret is really interesting, I find, and Emilie Francois (spelling?) did a great job, particularly in the beginning with Edward.

Speculations anyone?
