] I loved the score for ALP!! And those two songs Marianne sang were so touching! Does anyone have the words for them? I would be so grateful . . .

Sari:
Here are the words to the songs Marianne sings as they are written on my CD. "Weep You No More Sad Fountains" is the song she sings when Colonel Brandon first sees her; "The Dreame" is what is played at the closing credits...but,
you probably already know that...:-)

Weep You No More Sad Fountains

Weep you no more sad fountains;
what need you flow so fast?
Look how the snowy mountains
Heaven's sun doth gently waste.
But my sun's heavenly eys
View not your weeping,
That now lies sleeping
Softly, softly, now softly
Softly lies sleeping

Sleep is a reconciling,
A rest that peace begets.
Doth not the sun rise smiling
When fair at ev'n he sets?
Rest you then, rest, sad eyes,
Melt not in weeping,
While she lies sleeping
Softly, softly, now softly
Softly lies sleeping.

The Dreame

Or scorne or pity on me take,
I must the true relation make,
I am undone tonight.
Love, in a subtle dream disguised,
Hath both my heart and me surprised,
Whom never yet he durst attempt awake;
Nor will he tell me for whose sake
He did me the delight or spight,
But leaves me to inquire
In all my wild desire
Of sleep again, who was his aid,
And sleep so guiltie and afraid
As since he dares not come with my sight.
------------------------Ben Johnson

We could discuss all day the appropriateness of these songs---the way, in the movie, we see the longing look of Colonel Brandon when Marianne sings "Rest sad eyes".
I always thought they tied the songs together beautifully with what was happening in the film. And the "Love, in a subtle dream disguised..." really emphasizes the self-deception of both Marianne and Elinor: each of them, in their own ways, refused to face the truth of their feelings and what was best for them....now, enough of my analysis, I hope you enjoy the songs! (Another note: in the film, Marianne sings "I must the true relation make", but on the CD, they change the world relation to redemption I have no idea why.
