Back to the Sense and Sensibility board]] I personally believe lives contain many coincidences, some call it luck, others call it fate. In this century we call it destiny and goal (sometimes)... My life had one huge coincidence that changed everything for me and I was young enough/old enough (at the same time) to see it for what it truly was.

...I just attended a conference at the same university where Tineke is a student. I found out that she was a student there (I knew she lived in Belgium, but not where) at the last possible moment before leaving for Europe, when she showed up in the chat room at a time when I would normally never be there. So we met and had a nice visit. And when I get back to Japan, there is a discussion of coincidences on the S&S board.

As for my reaction to coincidences in JA's books, for some reason they don't bother me, and I had hardly noticed them until they were pointed out. I think that in a book that I otherwise like, I'm willing to forgive coincidences that I might complain about otherwise. (If, indeed, they need to be forgiven. My life also contains other coincidences at least as big as some of those in JA's books, though maybe not as many.)

I remember reading a book that I didn't much like a few years ago, and if someone had asked me why, I probably would have listed several unlikely coincidences. But that probably wasn't the real reason I dislike the book; I just didn't like the book enough to forgive the coincidences.
