Farenheit 451 (refers to temperature at which papers ignites) was written in the fifties by Bradbury. It's about a Future society which is functionally illiterate and burns books. Litterati preserve books by memorizing them.
Francois Truffaut made a very boring film with Oscar Werner and Julie Christie back in the sixties based on it; Mel Gibson's supposed to direct a remake from a script by Bradbury.
