Even Rickman couldn't reconcile me

] But in the movie, AR really made Colonel Brandon come alive, so that not only I did not wish his speedy demise, I found myself wishing Marianne to marry him from the beginning. Soetimes I felt like shaking her when she was so self-absorbed and rude. And he ended up being my favorite character in the movie. Anyone else had a similiar reaction?
Sorry to say, even after watching the movie several times, I didn't really warm to Alan Rickman. True, his Brandon is more alive than the one in the book. Still, I felt even Rickman's Brandon didn't fit Marianne. Like in the scene at the end where Col. Brandon is reading to Marianne, and she has that cap covering all her lovely curls and her smile is so sedate, I just wanted to cry for her. Of course this is all Willoughby's fault and she's better off without him, I just wish they'd showed her recovering the same spirit she had with Willoughby. She seemed a shell of her former self.
