John Dashwood as a good parti

What did John Dashwood have upon his marriage to Fanny that made him such a prize? He didn't inherit until his father died - and that could have taken years longer then it did. And I don't imagine that the Ferrars's knew what the settlement was going to be upon Mr. Dashwoods death; which would not give them any indication of how much John Dashwood would inherit as opposed to how much his sisters would inherit.

I think in the beginning of the book it says that John's mama was wealthy and money was settled on her son. Plus, even though his inheriting could take years, he will finally inherit. The Dashwood girls will never inherit anything. And maybe it's the attitude of "it might be good for my daughter (they never got as much money), but it's not good enough for my eldest son!"
Or maybe Mrs Ferrars saw a kindred soul in Fanny!
