In response to interpretation of the flowers, written by SandyW on July 05, 1998 at 17:13:06

Back to the Sense and Sensibility board ] I liked your interpretation of the flowers. Willoughby really didn't go out of his way to get his flowers, whereas Col. Brandon did. I hadn't thought of it as a representation of their characters until you mentioned it in your review.

Willoughby probably hand picked each flower one by one from the fields as he made his way to the cottage to visit Marianne. That fits his romantic style. Col. Brandon, on the other hand, undoubtedly sent a servant to retrieve his sight unseen from the hot house. That fits his proper and practical style. (I am now ducking very low so as not to get hit with whatever it is you are probably wanting to throw at me!) ;-p Peace!
