] I always found the first few paragraphs in the first chapter of S&S a bit confusing: the first time I read it, my head became dizzy while attempting to figure out this inheritance puzzle. I almost stopped then and there!
Me too! I was glad that I had watched the movie, but then I began to fear that perhaps the movie wasn't a very faithful adaptation. (It is, and it is not....)
] Jane Austen does this same trick in "Mansfield Park" at the beginning when she is setting up the marriages of all these sisters: I had to write down all the configurations, etc., to keep it straight.
When I first read that, I was extremely confused about what and whom the book was going to be about. I thought it was going to be more about the interaction of 3 married sisters, or something. (I was also afraid that if events kept on happening at such a rapid rate, two or three hundred years would pass before the end of the first volume! ;-) ) So when they finally got to the children, I had to go back and reread the first bit, just to make myself believe that it was the same novel, and that the first chapter had a point! Eventually, I figured it out....
] Maybe someone else has an opinion.
Believe me, we all have opinions! ;-P
] Great board and thanks much to whomever set it up, etc...
Yes, many thanks!
Kathy
