We should also consider that those types of wills were not as uncommon in JA's day as now. JA's original readers probably didn't need an elaborate discussion because they were already familiar with that type of will. Keeping money and property concentrated in the hands of the oldest male would prevent the family name from falling into disgrace over generations. So while the will set up in the first chapter is confusing to us, it was probably perfectly clear to her contemporaries.

I also want to echo everyone else's comments. I love this new board! Great idea!
