] Ebert's description of him runs something like "that indispensable villain Alan Rickman . . . with the speech patterns of a sentimental hangman . . ." Some people have been offended by this description, but I found it amusing. 8-)
I became a fan of Alan Rickman when he played Hans Gruber in Die Hard. I saw (and later purchased) Robin Hood Prince of Thieves because of him. I watched (and again later purchased) Rasputin because of him.
His performance as Colonel Brandon only reinforced my opinion of his acting ability.
