Back to the Sense and Sensibility board ] - I just thought I'd mention one of my favorite images of the Colonel... he's just brought deathly-ill Marianne in from the moors and whilst everyone else has scurried off to take her to the sickbed, he has collapsed in a soggy heap on the floor....


One thing I like about that scene is the contrast it provides to the scene where Willoghby carries Marianne into the cottage. Willoughby, being the perfect fantasy lover, doesn't even seem to be out of breath when he carries Marianne in. Brandon looks exhausted when he carries her in. He's not a fantasy lover, he's a real lover, and what he's done for Marianne has cost him.
