Mea Culpa: Edward is a Hero

Back to the Sense and Sensibility board ] So, I would have to say that the chief function Edward plays in the novel is to be the opposite of the "dastardly" Willoughby...and in the movie, he serves to bumble about and look adorably weenie. :)

I've only recently been rereading S&S and my main impression of Edward was of Hugh Grant's portrayal, which seemed "bumbling", ineffectual, passive, and absent. As I rediscover Edward in the book, I begin to "think very highly of him...esteem him...[and] like him". I still think he is more of a passive figure, but that does not make any less a proper hero and Elinor's perfect match.
