Those are two great examples. Mrs. Clay especially is like an older Lucy Steele. Lady Susan is wealthier so I consider her more ruthless than opportunistic, but I suppose she is both. Still, in the JA catalogue of opportunists, Lucy Steele is tops. As people have pointed out, she gets TWO guys to marry her against their better judgment. She's amazing.
