First I have to say that you guys crack me up!! This thread has spiralled wonderfully.
Yes, Willoughby misses out on his main chance for happiness because he's trying to secure his wealth, which would have been secure had he chose happiness. Why does this situation remind me of Jesus' words about whoever tries to save his life will lose it? It's so true in lots of everyday matters. Like when you try to save time taking the shortcut and it takes you twice as long. This is one reason why I feel sympathy for Willoughby. I've taken those 2-hour long "shortcuts." It's the worst.
