I cannot stand that woman! having said that though, she is more often met with than any of the other women.
Lucy has the kind of street pragmatism that I see expoused everywhere as the "get what you want" mentality. Sadly, this philosophy permeates modern life in the guise of all kinds of excuses.
Austen's heroines Elizabeth, Anne and Elinor (even Charlotte!), are far more modern than many women I meet today. IMHO
