Last week's Diaries reading

These diaries have helped me appreciate the evolution of the film's dialog and the collaboration among the actors, screenwriter, and director.
On June 5th, Hugh Laurie discusses with ET the rudeness of his character's line "Don't palm all your abuses of the language upon me." (scene 75)
I remember the line in the movie ending at "I never said anything so irrational." I laugh at this point in the film every time.
It may be I am laughing with Charlotte and Mrs. Jennings or laughing at Mr. Palmer rolling his eyes. However, I feel certain the elimination of the "abuses" line is an improvement. ET's argument that "It's in the book" (a joke?) notwithstanding, it is simply funnier in the final version.
Barbara? No reading assignment for this week?
