I've always been a bit exasperated with Marianne and sympathized more with Elinor, being an eldest child myself. My roommate, also an eldest child, shares my opinion.

I'm a younger sibling, and I much prefer Elinor. I'm not as responsible as she is, and I have been somewhat spoiled, but I am more like her temperamentally than I am like Marianne, and I would prefer to be still more like her.
Perhaps it is because my only sibling is an elder brother; I have no sisters to compare myself to.
