Thoughts on the last weeks' reading (I'll really find any excuse)

Back to the Sense and Sensibility board ] The most interesting thing about this week's diary entries is the glimpses it gives into the actors' personalities off screen.

I agree. But I continue to marvel at how these actors can do such completely different characters and still be so believable. Emma Thompson was travelling to see "Carrington" at Cannes while filming S&S. I'm not a big fan of Carrington, but if ever there was a character so diametrically opposed to Elinor, that would be it! What must it have been like to be immersed back into that role at the film festival, and then go back to playing Elinor a few days later???

The previous week's diary selection had ET and Alan Rickman discussing their long-playing stage roles. He made his mark by playing Valmont in Les Liasons Dangereuses. Here is another character who is the polar opposite of his S&S role. Valmont was a debauched sexual predator with no regard whatever for women, and willing to get what he wanted at all costs. I am astonished by my admiration for someone who could so convincingly play such a role for many months on stage, and yet be the perfect Colonel Brandon.

And that is a perfect segue to this...
