Yes! I love Plato's parable. Basically, the story is about the male-female sex that once populated the world. In their bisexual form, these people had enough power to challenge the gods, who, displeased, proceeded to bisect the hermaphroditic race. The two halves have since searched and yearned for the complementary other. The combining of the two heals the natural structure of man, making one from two. (This story, in fact, was mentioned in the afterword to my edition of Persuasion, but applies here as well.)
