] Most scenes are shot more than once, and performances that the actor liked can end up on the cutting room floor because of trivial details, like a wrongly buttoned shirt or a cloud passing overhead!


Right. Continuity is really important, not more so than the performance itself, but still significant enough to occasionally affect the editing process. A few years ago, I was editing a short film and had to completely dispense with a version of the performance that I loved because the camera tripod was clearly visible in the background!
