If the actor/actress does not act well in a film....is it entirely their fault? How much control and responsibility for their perfomance lies with the whims of the director? Maybe someone will have some thoughts about these things....
Not only the director and the performer have a role in the creation of a character--the editor can have an influence as well. Most scenes are shot more than once, and performances that the actor liked can end up on the cutting room floor because of trivial details, like a wrongly buttoned shirt or a cloud passing overhead!
