RObert was irrevocably endowed with capital/land holdings that generated a clear thousand pounds per year--which was Elinor's definition of wealth. Edward and ELinor have 3000 pounds capital, which in the five-percents would generate 150 pounds per year. Col. Brandon increased his tithe to make the beneficence yield 250 pounds ant the utmost. Then with the ten-thou that Mrs Ferrars ungraciously bestowed upon Edward, they had another 500 per year. So they wound up with 800-900 pounds per year to Robert and Lucy's 1000. No wonder Edward and Elinor wanted rather better pasturage for their cows! Fortunately, I am sure, Marianne and the Col. gave them innumerable presents of game and poultry, don't you think?
