In response to Why IS Jane Austen so relevant in today's society?, written by kat n. on November 10, 1997 at 22:26:53

Since my involvement with things Austen thus far is only through watching "Sense & Sensibility", my response to this is based on not the entire works of Ms. Austen, but on the culture & "sensibility" of the times in which her stories are set.

Chivalry, why hast thou deserted us? As I say in my bio, I'm REALLY sick of men approaching me with lines such as, "My favorite thing is music, my 2nd favorite thing is sex."

Oh, catch me while I swoon.

I may be an independent-minded, outspoken woman. However, I'm also POLITE in the company of others.

These complex, rude times we live in are lacking. I yearn for even a modicum of the respect portrayed in movies such as this.
