] Karen, I can't recall if you are writing about the film, or book

Another big difference between book and film is the role of Margaret. The Victorian novel virtually ignores the non-adult (apart from right at the end, when she behaves formally as Elinor falls apart with love). The modern film has a modern girl who is used to move the plot along by enabling Edward to expose his good character. Now, in playing along with this, I think Elinor is expressing SENSIBILITY rather than SENSE, so maybe the film has confused us a little.
