Perhpas you could then link this into your idea about Colenel Brandon's silence, as painting too is a silent thing....????

I believe Brandon to be a repressed sensibility. His consuming love for Eliza cut off in its bloom and his subsequent disappointments. Remember, he too plays the pianoforte very well and reads aloud beautifully. Don't be fooled by the calm, quiet exterior, as Marianne was at first. =)
