] ] It also amazes me that they didn't try to do what other producers have foolishly done and used some big name star (like Julia Roberts or Keanau Reeves) as a box office attraction.
]
] But Emma Thompson IS a big name star in the UK, especially in this kind of movie. She was also pretty welll known in the US wasn't she?
] And many of the other actors in Emma were very well known in the UK - Robert Hardy, because of All Creatures Great and Small, Alan Rickman, Hugh Laurie had had a TV show on the BBC for several years, and Imogen Stubbs was not exactly an unknown
] And as Emma herself said, Hugh Grant was more famous than God.... you couldn't have got a British actor who was better known (everywhere!) than him....
I must hang out with the wrong people, then....they all know Sandra Bullock and Brad Pitt...but mention any of the names above, and they get glassy eyed...and even if I tell them names of the films they have been in, it still doesn't click. Well, with the exception of the Robin Hood movie...most of them can figure out who Alan Rickman is, after I've explained it. But, there again, most of the people I know are either action movie lovers, etc...so that probably explains most of the problem.
