This board is here to illuminate JA's novels and her life. While we welcome discussion regarding the time in which she lived (as it relates to Jane), this board is not intended to be a forum for the discussion of general history or the Georgian/Regency era. Both topics are too vast and not in keeping with the narrow JA focus of Pemberley. At various times in our existence, we have tried general discussion and found that it caused more problems than it resolved, with Pemberley being inundated with posts from history buffs not interested in Jane Austen, and particularly writers of historical fiction who want to use Pemberley to do their research for them. Neither is this board intended to be free service for writers of historical fiction or Jane Austen-inspired fan fiction.
So, because we're a Jane Austen site, we try to make sure the questions have a foundation in her life or her work. Sometimes the discussion does diverge from the narrow focus, but we like to have the starting point firmly rooted in Jane. When discussion veers from JA's life or questions arising from the reading of her work, posters will be requested to bring it back on topic.
The L&T Board differs from other boards at Pemberley as it most often deals with facts, rather than opinions. If you are providing information on a topic, please be sure to include a solid reference. This helps to verify that this is indeed fact, and not solely your opinion, and may offer a jumping off point for further research. If you have not given a reference or otherwise indicated the source of your facts, you may be asked to provide one.
