] I just started following this board, so forgive me if you have gone over this ground already.
] I am wondering if anyone knows about the "protocol" for duels in this era and what type of weapons would likely have been used? I'm thinking specifically of Willoughby and Colonel Brandon when they meet in London "to punish his conduct".
Ok, this basically what I have picked up from years of reading regencies/historicals
1. After the challenge was issued, seconds (usually 2 friends of each of the participants) got together to decide when and where and arrange for a doctor
2. Choice of weapons was up to the challenger
3. Pistols or swords were the weapons of choice (pistols were preferred by the English, swords more continental but either was OK anywere)
4. If one of the participants apologized the duel was off
