In Darcy's time, (I'm assuming P&P takes place closer to when JA originally wrote--I think 1795 ish) would his estate have been considered a parish since it was 10 miles around? If so, then would he have selected his own pastor for his parish or was that assigned by the officials of the Church of England?
If Pemberley would not have had its own church on the grounds, would the Darcys have attended a church in Lambton? Thanks. EL
