] This is pretty off-topic, but I visited Madison's home, Montpelier (about forty-five minutes from my home) this weekend, and the docent told us that a peace agreement between England and America was reached at one point, but the news of this was delayed so that fighting continued for an extended period of time. Compare this to the speed at which we are communicating at this very moment...mind-boggling!

Yeah, the Battle of New Orleans, in which Andrew Jackson distinguished himself was actually fought after the Treaty that ended the War of 1812 was signed.
