To L and T indexMost of these questions are answered in the archives...there's lots to read in there!

Also, I'm a bit confused by the whole walking arm and arm thing. When a gentleman and lady went for a walk together, was it acceptable for the lady to take the gentleman's arm (engaged or not)? It seems to me that when I was reading P&P, the Bingley sisters were walking arm and arm with Darcy when Jane was sice at Netherfield and yet in the BBC version of P&P, they make a big production of Darcy offering his arm to Elizabeth after she finally accepts his proposal of marriage. I'd be very interested to hear any insight any of you can offer.

You're right, he did walk arm in arm with them. But he'd never walked arm in arm with Elizabeth before! it's not "they" making a big production of it in P&P1, it's Darcy making a big production of it!
