] At a ball, married males and females were expected to dance with other people and it was actually quite rude for a man to monopolize his wife and vice-verse.


I am old enough to remember when Queen Elizabeth came to visit during the Ford administration. They had a grand ball on the lawn of the White House. The first dance of the evening featured President Ford Dancing with Her Majesty, and Prince Phillip dancing with Betty Ford.
