] Could someone kindly provide me with some information (or a source of information) on the attitudes of the Regency gentry towards America and the Americans? I'm interested in writing a story for the fanfic board involving an American visitor to Pemberley, but I want to get my facts straight first. Thanks a lot!
I'm no Regency expert, but I would wager that part of the attitude would depend on when the American visitor visited: what was the English attitude toward America. Were England and America at war? Remember that in the War of 1812, the Brits burned the American White House, which couldn't have created too many nice feelings. :-> That event happened in 1814?, and with news traveling the way it did, England probably didn't know about it for about 3-6 months afterwards.
