] In a London townhouse, the most common location for the ballroom was on the first floor, where most of the other entertaining rooms were, including the Drawing room.My understanding is the "first floor" is actually up a flight of stairs from the entry/street level and that the dining room and kitchen were on the entry level, hence references to "going down to dinner." The dining room was on the same level as the kitchen as opposed to with the other areas of entertainment so the food might have the best chance of arriving while still warm. Is this consistent with your info?
