Ballrooms and Sets

If it helps any, most English Country Dances are done in what is called a "Longways Set." In these the dancers stand in two rows (men on one side) about four feet apart. There should also be about two feet between each the dancers on each side, supposedly just enough to get in between the men (or women) if the dance required you to pass through the line. This might give you an idea of how large an area your dancers would need. If the room was too short for a single set, they could put additional sets running parallel to the first one. Then there's the space needed for those waiting to dance, hoping to be invited, complaining about not being asked, just watching, etc., etc.
