ballrooms in townhouses...

I attempted to find this information in the archives, but failed (my own fault, I assure you!).
Was it common for the better townhouses in London to contain ballrooms? I believe they did but wasn't sure.
If so, what was the typical size? I was thinking 25 people but once again, wasn't sure.
