] Let's have a head count. Who, around here, is a Georgette Heyer fan?Apart from me, that is! And which book of hers should be made into a movie?
Confession time: I'd always looked down on GH's Regencies (without having ever read one) because they were considered "romances" and therefore silly. Serves me right for letting myself be guided by male opinion! (Well actually, I'd read a couple of her mysteries--set in the 20th century--and hadn't thought that much of them).
But just last month, wanting something light for the Fourth of July weekedn, I picked up a copy of Bath Tangle. I LOVED IT!!! Strong hero, spunky heroine, and both so sharp & witty. Well written! And lots of action! GH's Regency characters come alive in a way that her modern characters don't. You get the same sense of realism that you do with P&P2, although her plots are wilder.
Since then, I've read Sylvester, or the Wicked Uncle,, which was OK but not great, and Sprig Muslin, which I loved. It's so great to know that there are many more out there!
There is a mailing list devoted to GH, which reads her novels and discusses them. It has a website (see link below) with lots of useful info. And, Caroline, I'd also love to see her books made into movies or TV series. Haven't read enough of them yet to say which ones would be best, but I'll keep you posted! ;-)
